Pigs are fascinating animals—way smarter than most people realize! Domesticated pigs, known as Sus scrofa domesticus, come from wild boars and have been selectively bred for thousands of years for their adaptability and usefulness on farms.

They have incredible memories, recognizing humans and even their pig pals after long separations. They also communicate with over 20 vocal sounds, from grunts to squeals, each with specific meanings. Pigs love to root around with their snouts, which are super sensitive, to find food. And that famous “pig pen” mud bath? It’s their way of cooling down since they don’t sweat much.
