Melody The Luna Moth-5 inch

The luna moth, Actias luna, is one of the most beautiful and recognizable moths in North America. Known for its striking green wings, long tails, and distinctive "eyespots," it's a member of the Saturniidae family, or giant silk moths. Their wingspan can reach up to 4.5 inches, giving them an ethereal, fairy-like appearance.

Luna moths are nocturnal and are usually seen at dusk. They only live for about a week in their adult form because they lack mouths and don't eat, focusing solely on finding a mate. This short, intense life cycle has a sort of poetic beauty, and they’re often seen as symbols of transformation and new beginnings.

They’re also known for being rare to spot, which adds to their mystique. Their caterpillars are large, green, and kind of charming with rows of tiny spots along their sides. These caterpillars feed on trees like sweetgum, hickory, and walnut before forming a cocoon and emerging as the iconic adult moth.
